AI Mills builds first complete AI infrastructure in the Netherlands
Bussum, May 7, 2026 – AI infrastructure is increasingly becoming a foundational building block of the modern economy. Until now, we have been dependent on non-European providers for AI. AI Mills is changing this, equipping the Netherlands with high-performance, sovereign AI infrastructure without overburdening the power grid.
An AI factory is critical infrastructure. It is where enterprises develop and deploy AI within their business processes. Organizations that fail to integrate AI into their workflows will increasingly lose ground to companies leveraging this technology. This makes such infrastructure indispensable to our economic growth—not just in the commercial sector, but also in critical areas like healthcare and defense. Yet, AI infrastructure of this scale is virtually non-existent in the Netherlands today, leaving us reliant on non-European providers. This represents a strategic risk, particularly given current geopolitical tensions.
AI Mills is building this critical AI infrastructure, essential for a future-proof Europe. Built entirely on domestic soil, in full compliance with European laws and regulations. Nick Jacobs of AI Mills: “It is as if cars are being built all over the world and people want to drive, but the Netherlands does not yet have highways. AI Mills is building these highways, ensuring we have our own infrastructure, independent of third parties.”
Outsmarting grid congestion
However, the biggest bottleneck in the Netherlands is energy and grid congestion. That is why AI Mills has developed a novel approach to build this AI infrastructure rapidly and scalably. Nick Jacobs: “Instead of developing a single mega-datacenter, we are deploying multiple highly compact AI factories distributed across the Netherlands. Equally powerful, but far more flexible and agile. We place them in locations with abundant or surplus energy, such as near wind farms and solar parks, leaning heavily on sustainable power. This flexible setup allows for rapid scalability, moving in lockstep with the pace and direction of the AI market.”
A full-stack AI infrastructure
In addition to raw compute power, known as GPU-as-a-Service, AI Mills offers the AI Marketplace: a platform where enterprises can instantly deploy AI applications, including Large Language Models (LLMs), AI agents, image, and video models. This AI Marketplace is unique and a first-of-its-kind offering in the Netherlands. Jacobs: “Think of it as a repository where you can check out models as needed to train and develop further. Building from scratch is no longer necessary; with access to libraries such as NVIDIA's, there is a wide range of foundational models selection. This saves enterprises and governments significant development time, resulting in substantial cost savings.”
Made in Holland
AI Mills actively addresses grid congestion, environmental impact, and sustainability. “Our ambition is to make the Netherlands future-proof. With these AI data centers, we stimulate the creation and growth of new enterprises while attracting and retaining top-tier tech talent. We are putting the Netherlands back on the map as a tech leader,” says Jacobs.
